Magnum will host the P.R.O. Juniors Outdoor Championships this Saturday in Lexington, Sc

The last Juniors Outdoor tournament of the summer is this weekend at Gibson Park in Lexington, Sc. It will be hosted by Magnum where Autumn McManus will be trying to finish the year as the points leader for the P.R.O. series 2010.

Come and watch or play if you can. Registration is at 8:30am and they will play till about 6pm.

Magnum Finishes 46th

The 16 Elite loses their final match of the 2010 USAV Nationals to VIP Juniors 16-Chan to finish 46. The first game was a heart breaking loss 29-27 and it seemed to deflate the team. We lost the next game 25-18.

Overall the girls grew in their volleyball experience. Learned how to fight no matter what the odds or who the opponent was. This will make them stronger in the future.

Magnum Wins!!!

After 3 days of losing some hard fought matches Magnum finally gets the "W"by destroying Arkansas Juniors 16-1 by the scores of 25-14, 25-8.

This puts us against VIP Juniors 16-Chan in the finals of flight 7.

Still searching for win

Day 3- We can't seem to play a complete game and get that first win. We started the day off against Iowa Rockets and competed well, but came up a little short. Iowa had size, great defense and strong serving. We ended up losing 25-16, 25-19 but we serve received better but blocking and attacking was were we struggled in this match

Our 2nd match of the day was against Central Cal who just never gave up on any balls. Looking at them we easily had advantages in most positions, but that team just kept playing and playing and didn't make many mistakes. Unforced errors once again has kept us from getting that first win. We lost 25-19, 25-8.

Our final match of the day was a challenge match against Club Utah. We seem to match up fairly evenly. Still, we seemed to be unable to overcome all our errors during the match. We lost 25-19, 25-21

So going into today, we're playing to win Flight 7.

Coach Piro's Evaluation of the Competition Level at Nationals and what the 16s need to do

The teams that we are up against here at Nationals are just too consistent...in all aspects of the game. If you let down at all you lose points quickly and then lose the game. Serve receive has to be on and then the hits have to be there too. Free Balls = Free Points.

Magnum 16 Elite
I'm still waiting for this team to have their best volleyball. I truly think that if we play our best for an entire match, we will come out on top in the end. It's not that we're outmatched, we're just inconsistent compared to these other teams.

I'm excited about today and the opportunity that is ahead of us. We still have a chance to make Flight 2, but it will be tough...we definitely need to play our best volleyball to get there.

Magnum Drops Both Matches on Day 2

Day two was not too kind for Magnum...We dropped the first match to the #1 seeded team, Colorado Jrs (25-16, 25-9) and match #2 against MAVA (25-16, 25-18). Serve receive was our major issue. The team played competitive at the beginning of each match, but seemed to lose their confidence after a few mistakes. We will continue to fight and work hard in search for that win...

Coach Piro's Evaluation after day 2

Experience, Experience, Experience....that is what all the other teams have that we are getting by being here at Nationals. It's not that we're "outmatched" or "out-hustled". When things get close we get nervous and make too many unforced errors, something we CANNOT do at this level. The girls are learning this daily.

The one thing I wanted the girls to do from Day One was to "COMPETE" and that they have. Still we were not getting wins against these good teams because of our inconsistent play in all aspects of the game.

I do believe Magnum has opened the eyes of many teams and coaches around the country though. We did put on a show the first match against Circle City where the court was lined with big-time college coaches (watching Circle City probably but we got some looks as well).

We have to play and compete...great things will happen to teams who compete.

Match 3 - Day 1-Magnum vs. Nebraska Elite

We were hoping for our first win against Nebraska Elite but it didn't happen.

The first game both teams battled back and forth with Magnum looking to be the more dominant team, offensively and blocking but unforced errors once again plagued the team dropping the first game 24-26. Magnum got into a hole the second game and couldn't find their way out losing game two 18-25.


After day one we played hard but came up short in all of our matches. But this is Nationals and we are playing the best of the best. That is why we came here. To compete against the best.

The team gets set to face #1 seed Colorodo Jrs tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned and say many prayers!

Too many errors = loss against Arizona

Magnum 16 Elite went down 0-8 at the start of game 1 to Arizona Juniors due to serve receive errors. Nothing seemed to go right losing the first game 13-25. Game 2 started out a bit different but just couldn't seem to overcome the unforced errors dropping the game 18-25 and starting off the tournament 0-2. Magnum gets a break next match and hopefully will regroup to finish day one on a positive note.

Day 1 at Reno. 16 Elite's first match was a marathon with many college coaches watching

The 16's team went into play today seeded 48th out of 48 teams at nationals. They opened their first match against the #17 seed Circle City (who finished 3rd at last year's nationals). Nerves got to the girls, as expected in game one but battled back falling just short 21-25. Game two the girls got things rolling and it was a back and forth set. Magnum took the set 31-29 and started strong in set 3. Switching sides ahead 8-6 led by the blocking of Des and Amber who combined for a total 10 block kills in the match. But they couldn't hold off a more experienced Circle City team falling just short 13-15. The match was exciting and the girls confidence growing knowing that they can compete at this stage
